Sunless tanners are a great way to get that sun-kissed, bronzed look of summer without the dangers of excessive sun exposure. The safe ingredients in sunless tanners work on the surface of the skin to change the colour of the top layer. Depending on which product you use, the colour can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours to start to appear, and usually lasts 3-4 days. The amount of colour an individual develops depends upon the shade of product used, the number of times it is applied, and individual body chemistry. Products like Neutrogena® Instant Bronze® have a new, user-friendly feature that allows you to see exactly where you are applying the product to help eliminate mistakes and produce even coverage. You can also try these tips on how to apply your sunless tanner to bring about more natural-looking results:
  • Just before using a sunless tanner, exfoliate or wash your skin with a scrub or washcloth to make skin smooth and even.
  • Pour the product into your hand and apply evenly over your skin. Be careful around creased areas like your knees and elbows as they can absorb more colour.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after use.

Keep in mind that sunless tanners won’t protect you from the sun, so remember to apply a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
